Conditions for marathon running are ideal. The Guernsey climate is influenced by the prevailing south westerly winds of the Gulf Stream. The average temperatures for August are around 14 to 18 C. Official timing of the event is the time from the starter’s gun to the time when the runner crosses the finish line.
There will be drinks stations every 5K. Water will be available in bottles and cups. There will be distance markers every mile, the first marker being '26 miles to go', the second, '25 miles to go' and so on. Runners tell us that they much prefer to see '6 miles to go' rather than '20 miles' !! There will be male and female toilets at each of the Relay changeover points. There are also public toilets round the course.
The course takes you along some of Guernsey's most picturesque roads and lanes. The first 1.5 miles gradually take you to the top of the island. From there the course is relatively flat until you descend onto the west coast and then pass by many of our sandy inlets and bays and around the coastline to the finish on the Crown Pier.
