The 2018 Guernsey Waterfront Marathon and Relay Races will take place on Sunday 26th August 2018. The start and finish will be on the waterfront in St. Peter Port. The Marathon and Relays Races will start together at 9.00 am. Registration for the races will take place in the Marathon Village on the Crown Pier in St. Peter Port on Saturday 25th August 2018, between the times of 11.00am and 6.00pm. At Registration, runners will be given their package containing bib number and Final Instructions. Only one member of a relay team needs to register.
The course takes you along some of Guernsey's most picturesque roads and lanes. The first 1.5 miles gradually take you to the top of the island. From there the course is relatively flat until you descend onto the west coast and then pass by many of our sandy inlets and bays and around the coastline to the finish on the Crown Pier.
Conditions for marathon running are ideal. The Guernsey climate is influenced by the prevailing south westerly winds of the Gulf Stream. The average temperatures for August are around 14 to 19 C.
There will be drinks stations every 5K. There will be distance markers every mile, the first marker being '26 miles to go', the second, '25 miles to go' and so on. Runners tell us that they much prefer to see '6 miles to go' rather than '20 miles' !! There will be male and female toilets at each of the Relay changeover points. There are also public toilets round the course.
The Marathon Village is situated on the Crown Pier in St. Peter Port. There will be marquees for supervised baggage storage, medical care, hot and cold food and refreshments in the Athlete's Foot Pub, and a massage facility. There are car parks in the area, at Salerie Corner and North Beach, but the waterfront in St. Peter Port will be closed to traffic on the day of the event.
